Get Involved
Minneapolis Bike Parks is a grassroots organization, run entirely by volunteers who care about creating great places to ride in this city. In our early days, we had the time to attend meetings, engage with the Park Board, and rally support in person. These days, with active teenagers of our own keeping us busy, that time is harder to come by — and that's where you come in. If you have ideas, questions, or concerns about bike parks in Minneapolis, your commissioner and the Park Board need to hear from you. Below is the model we followed to get things moving — use it to keep the momentum going.
Your Voice Builds This Movement
Minneapolis bike parks don't happen because someone hopes for them — they happen because neighbors like you speak up and keep showing up. Every trail, skate park, and rec center in this city exists because someone decided their community deserved better and acted on it.
If you want more places to ride, jump, and build skills close to home, your voice matters. Elected officials and park board employees pay attention to who takes the time to engage — and we need more of you doing it.
Know Your Park Commissioner and MPBR contacts
Minneapolis parks are governed by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) — six district commissioners plus three at-large seats who vote on budgets and approve projects, including bike parks.
Most residents couldn't name their commissioner. That's easy to fix:
-
Know your district and commissioner — these are our current commissioners.
-
Connect with MPRB planning services- see Planning Services section on this page
-
Save their contact info so reaching out takes seconds.
-
Follow public meetings — public comment periods are open to anyone.
One email gets read. A dozen gets noticed. A room full of neighbors can shift a vote.
Rally Your Community
Change rarely comes from one person — it comes from a few people convincing a few more.
-
Talk to your neighbors who ride or want safer, more active public space.
-
Know where there are existing bike parks and which parks have bike parks in their plan.
-
Show up together to an MPRB or neighborhood association meeting.
-
Write a specific ask to your commissioner — naming a location or vision beats a vague request.
-
Spread the word — share updates and tag your commissioner and Minneapolis Bike Parks when there's a decision coming up. We can help amplify.
Small Actions, Real Momentum
You don't need to be a policy expert. You need to:
-
Know who represents you.
-
Tell them what you want.
-
Bring neighbors along.
That's how bike parks get built — one engaged resident at a time.
We will continue to be here amplifying the work you are doing, sharing info as it becomes available and engaging as time permits.
Stay rad, Minneapolis.
