We are excited to announce that, along with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, we will be offering a Girls Bike Adventure program at Lake Nokomis this summer.
The program will provide girls with an opportunity to learn new bike skills, make new friends, and explore natural spaces within a bike ride of Lake Nokomis Rec Center. Riders will participate in drills, games, and group rides that will help improve their confidence on two wheels.
The focus of this program isn’t on racing or competition. The focus is on fun, skill building, and camaraderie. Participants of this program will learn fundamentals that will help them become better bike riders. We will spend time riding on paved and natural surface trails learning safety, control, and balance. We will also touch on basic bike maintenance and help familiarize riders with bicycle vocabulary and knowledge.
There will be both female and male volunteer coaches, but at least 50% of the volunteers will be female. This is a girls only program, so there will always be at least one female with each group of riders.
Participants must be able to ride a two wheeled bike on their own prior to this offering. Ride destinations will be communicated with parents before the start of each practice.
Ages: Girls at least 6, but less than 11 years old
Location: Lake Nokomis Rec Center
Fee: Minneapolis Residents $40 / Non-Residents $60
Dates: Starts July 9th, Ends August 13th
Timing: Tuesday nights 6:00pm- 7:30pm
We know boys love biking too, and we also know kids in other age groups could benefit from bike programming, so pop on over to the survey to let us know what you'd like to see in future offerings.
